I once had the privilege of a one-on-one class with a teacher from the Faculty of Arts. This Still Life Study is the result of that lesson. I learned so much from that brief interaction.
I can’t remember if it was before or after this class that he gave me some homework: to paint from imagination on huge canvases. When I presented those paintings, I was stunned by his insight—he could see things in me through my art that I hadn’t recognized myself. He was struck by the recurring presence of tears and what he perceived as sadness. At that time, I couldn’t see it, but I still reflect on that ... to this day.
