The complexity of real-world problems, and the need to develop complex software systems that can adapt continuously to a dynamic environment such as the real world, are leading to a growing interest in the use of computational intelligence techniques in the development of specific applications.

Computational Intelligence is the subfield of Artificial Intelligence that deals with the design, application and development of computational paradigms inspired by biological, social and linguistic domains. These are in particular fuzzy systems, neural networks, cognitive systems, nature-inspired systems and hybrid intelligent systems in which all these paradigms are contained.

The research institute aims to investigate theoretical, applied and practical aspects of these computational paradigms. There is currently a growing interest in the use of artificial intelligence techniques, especially computational intelligence techniques, in industrial and commercial sectors, so we particularly aim to link computational intelligence techniques to real-world projects and applications in areas such as finance, game theory, biological sciences and medicine, bioinformatics, industry, linguistics and software engineering. Members of the research institute’s staff have an outstanding research record, which is reflected in prestigious scientific publications. Among the institute’s research directions, which have already yielded particularly valuable scientific results, we mention the following: intelligent data analysis methods, formal concept analysis, applications of computational intelligence in bioinformatics, application of machine learning techniques in software engineering, computational linguistics and quantitative and qualitative text analysis methods, intelligent medical data management and analysis, search-based software engineering, intelligent medical data management and analysis, methods and applications of machine learning.
