The Very Large Databases (VLDB) Summer School on Data Management in the Cloud will take place between the 24th and 27th of July 2023, in the heart of Transylvania at the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca – and we are looking for students to participate!

The Summer School will welcome outstanding international speakers from prestigious institutions, such as ETH Zurich, Boston University, University of Fribourg, TU Darmstadt, and others, covering topics including:

• Introduction to Data Management in the Cloud
• Benchmarking of Database Systems in the Cloud
• Hardware Parallelism in Transaction Processing Systems
• Cloud Networking State of the Art
• Modern Storage Stacks and Data Management on SSDs

The Summer School has a capacity of around 40 participants and is aimed at Master’s and PhD students in Computer Science. Master students close to graduation and early stage PhD students would benefit the most from this experience, but applications are also open to more junior or more senior researchers. Applications will be evaluated based on the applicants’ CV, their motivation for joining the event, and their prior database knowledge. The Summer School has a participation fee, but thanks to a generous donation by the VLDB SPEND committee, we will be able to offer a reduced participation fee for many students. Applications will open on the 14th of April, with the deadline to apply on 30th of April 2023.
