Outstanding results of our students at the first algorithmic competitions of the 2024/2025 academic year

In recent weeks, the first algorithmic competitions of the 2024/2025 academic year took place, with our faculty teams achieving outstanding results in these competitions:

On October 20, the national phase of the most important competition of this kind, the ICPC competition (formerly the ACM competition), took place. Teams from their respective faculties participated in the online competition under the local supervision of professors. The UBB_SAF team (Alexandru Lorintz, Andrei Cătălin Moca, Doru Floare) took 4th place. The UBB_Jderii_Mancaciosi team (Cristian-Adrian Blaga, Andrei Lețu, Tudor Gabriel Bustan) also qualified for the next phase of the competition, coming in 11th place out of approximately 90 teams in the country.

At the South-East European phase of the competition on November 17, in the company of the strongest teams from Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, North Macedonia, Romania, Ukraine, Serbia, and Turkey, our teams achieved 29th and 41st places out of approximately 90 participating teams. The competition was organized in parallel in two locations, in Bucharest and Lviv, respectively.

On November 23rd in Târgu Mureș, we were represented by two teams at the ECN Sapientia competition, a competition with international participation from high schools and universities from Romania and Hungary. In the university competition, the UBB_SAF team obtained 2nd place (1st place among university teams in the country), and the UBB8 team (László Szilamér, Ákos Kovács, Robert Turony) ranked 6th (3rd place among university teams in the country).

Congratulations to our students for their hard work, and at the same time, thanks to the colleagues involved in their preparation and coordination: lect. dr. Csaba Pătcaș and lect. dr. Radu Lupșa for organizing the trip to Bucharest and accompanying the students.
